Who are at risk of genetic disorder?
- Previous history of genetic in family Eg sickle cell disease, thalessemia
- Affected fetus in previous pregnancy
- Previous child having genetic disorder
- Previous history of recurrent pregnancy loss
When to advise genetic counselling
- Premarital – with family history of genetic disease
- Prepregnancy – – with previous history of malformation /mental retardation/ birth defect/ recurrent pregnancy loss
- Antenatal – increased chances of having birth defect in fetus or genetic condition

Analyzing family history and pattern of inheritance thereby calculating recurrence risk. Giving information about genetic test and related procedures.
